Attention!
Head Press has Moved!
HEAD PRESS is now situated at http://headpress.org.uk/.
Movements - of the social, intellectual or artistic kind - appear to have been consigned to the past. We live in a state of divergent realities. Each of us is contained in an individual viewpoint, originating with ourselves in the centre, which continues upon its own path until reaching points of deflection, moments of evaluation and perhaps moments when our course is changed fundamentally (jumping the tracks, so to speak). The individual opinion is the core of all popular or informal debate. This subjective stand-point centres the speaker as author of comment - "This is what I think, this is my experience, this is my view". At Head Press we do not offer a critique of this, but aim to use such a state to the advantage of our readers.
Each of us commences from a particular point (or rather, if you could measure each of us at a moment in time and space and we would each have a particular 'reality' that we could call our own.) If you imagine each of these as a point, they would be very disparate and separate. From that moment on they move, forming lines, and they may converge or diverge from one another, but they will always be in dialogue with one another - they will always only exist as interrelated entities, they need each other to define themselves. No idea or person is in isolation.
The hope, in essence, is that by presenting enough thoughts, enough probes into ideas, we can start to form a clearer idea of how interrelated concepts can be. To forge a dialogue that values individual opinion and subjective standpoint, that begins to draw together the links between them and establish their place in the larger scheme. What that scheme is, may become clear in time, but it cannot be assumed that we should know it from the outset.
